(a) Canditates should have passed in one sitting a minimum of three approved subjects at the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination conducted by the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka. (Preference will be given to candidates those who studied approved subjects under Commerce Stream.)
(b) Candidates those who do not possess the qualifications stated above, can apply for registration if they have obtained any one of the following qualifications, accepted by the University of Kelaniya.
- The Vocational (Special) Teachers' Certificate of the Sri Lanka Department of Education.
- Passed First and Second Examinations of the Course leading to the Diploma in Commerce of the Sri Lanka Technical College.
- Passed First and Second Examinations of the Course leading to the Diploma in Accountancy of the Sri Lanka Technical College.
- Passed 1st, 2nd and 3rd Examinations conducted by CIMA (London) or the Association of Certified and Corporate Accountants.
- Passed the Intermediate Examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.
- Associate Membership of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries, London.
- Passed the Final Examination of the Sri Lanka Bankers' Institute.
- Associate membership of the London Institute of Bankers.
- A Diploma in Business Studies awarded by a former Junior University or a recognised Polytechnical Institute.
- Completed one-year service as a commissioned officer of a permanent unit of the Sri Lanka Army, Navy or Air Force.
- An officer in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service who has passed in the examination for recruitment to Class III of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service.
- Certificate in Business Studies of the Sri Lanka Technical College.
- Membership of the Association of Company and Commercial Accountants of the United Kingdom.
- Diploma of the Institute of Work Study Practitioners, England.
- Associate Membership of the Institute of Management of Britain.
- Passed all sections of the examination of the Institute of Administrative Accounting, London.
- Passed the Book-keepers' Advanced Certificate in Commerce of the Sri Lanka Technical College or of the Polytechnical Institute of the Ministry of Education.
- Joined the government Accountants' Service on passing the Sri Lanka Government Accountants' Final Examination.
- An officer of the Management Service of the Ministry of Public Administration, on having passed the examinations conducted by the Commissioner of Examinations for recruitment to that service.
- Passed the Book-keepers' Higher Certificate of the London Chamber of Commerce.
- Passed the Advanced National Diploma in Management of the Open University of Sri Lanka.
- Membership of the Accountants' Technical Institute in Sri Lanka.
- Work experience at executive level of Management in Government or private sector.
- Diploma in Marketing, University of Kelaniya.
- Diploma in Business Finance, University of Kelaniya.
- Diploma in Business Accountancy, University of Kelaniya.
- Diploma in Human Resource Management, University of Kelaniya.
- Diploma in Business, University of Kelaniya.
- In addition to that, opportunities are given to candidates those who are having any other qualifications acceptable to the faculty of Commerce and Management and the Senate of this University. The Senate decision is the final in this regard.

1. Examination Methods
The examination will be held either by summoning undergraduates to the examination halls in persona or via online, as decided by the University of Kelaniya.
2. Assessment Tools
Each course unit will be evaluated and offered grades. Evaluation of course units can be done using one or several methods given below:

Online Quizzes
Reports
In class Test
Oral Test
Presentation
Continuous Assessment
Internship/Work-based training
3. Getting Absent for examination
It is compulsory for all candidates to face examination for every course unit they get registered. The candidate should provide an acceptable reason to the Appeal Board of the university for being absent, if not such instances will be marked as ‘Absent’ (ab).
4. Appealing
In unavoidable circumstances in which the candidate is unable to face the examination for the first time, he/she will be given opportunity to face examination as the first attempt, by making an appeal. The candidate shall write a letter with acceptable reasons to the Appeal Board and receive the recommendation. This is not relevant to failed course units.
5. Facing Repeat Examination
Undergraduates who have received below C grade (C-/D+/D/E) could face the examination again to get a maximum of C grade. If the undergraduate obtains a lower grade than the previous attempt, the former will be counted for award of degree.
6. Practical tests and Assessments of the repeater
When facing a paper consisting of practical tests or assignments, as a repeater, the marks of the practical tests or assignment obtained in the previous attempt will be counted. The undergraduate does not have to face the practical tests or assignment again.
7. Duration to complete the degree
The degree should be completed within consecutive five academic years and it should be three academic years when obtaining a class. But, the degree can be completed within a maximum of 10 academic years, by appealing to sit for failed course units.
Examinations pertaining to external degree courses offered by the University are given below for the convenience of candidates.

The above examinations will be held at the end of every academic year in regional centers of the island, depending on the number of candidates.
All external degree examinations are conducted in Sinhala and English, other than language exams.
Changing the medium or subject registered
Each student will have one opportunity to change the medium or instruction or the registered subjects, within one month of registration with the CDCE. Thereafter, the medium of instruction or the selected subjects cannot be changed under any circumstance.

A minimum of two weeks prior to the commencement of an examination every candidate eligible to sit the relevant examination will be issued an Admission form to that examination. In the event of a candidate not receiving such Admission form two weeks prior to the examination he/she must inform the External Examinations Branch of this University immediately.
- Every registered candidate for a particular degree course must sit the relevant end of year examination, subject to the completion of necessary requirements.
- Except under circumstances where express permission has been granted on the basis of acceptable medical grounds, every candidate must present himself / herself for the examination on one and the same occasion in every subject for which he/she has registered.
- In the case of a candidate who has failed to appear for an examination or failed to complete an examination on acceptable medical grounds, the question of granting him/her an Honours Pass will be considered only if he/she repeats the examination in one sitting at the first available opportunity and passes that examination reaching a standard acceptable to the Board of Examiners as being one deserving an Honours Pass in accordance with examination regulations.
- Those candidates who are referred or re-referred must of necessity obtain a pass in the relevant subject in accordance with examination regulations.
(a) A candidate when sitting an examination must at all times have in his/her possession his/her Admission Form and his/her Student Record Book. In case the Student Record Book is not produced when called for (at an examination) a student is liable to have his/her candidature cancelled. In the course of an examination if by mischance the Student Record Book is lost, steps must be taken immediately to inform the Senior Assistant Registrar of such loss and have a duplicate procured.
(b) If a candidate falls ill in such a manner as to prevent him/her sitting an examination or a part thereof, the External Examinations Branch must be informed immediately in writing, and a medical certificate acceptable to the Government from either a District Medical Officer or a Specialist Physician or Surgeon of a Government hospital must be submitted within one month of the candidate falling ill. (Medical certificates submitted after one month will be rejected).
*** All external candidates will be issued a detailed instruction sheet along with the examination admission form.
Some examination malpractices are given below:
- Bringing notes, diagrams, articles etc. into the examination hall and having them on one's possession or nearby or using them when examinations are in progress.
- Removing stationery, tables etc. supplied by the University from the examination hall.
- Copying, helping to copy or an attempting to help for such a malpractice.
- Impersonation.
- Other forms of dishonesty and unruly behaviour or any other forms of malpractices.
In the event an examination malpractice is proved, the Senate of the University of Kelaniya under the privileges given by the Universities Act could impose the following punishments:
- Cancellation of candidacy of the relevant paper / subject or the whole examination.
- Suspension / Cancellation of registration.
- Debarring from sitting the examination for a stipulated period of time with or without a fine being imposed.
- Any other punishment meted out by the University Senate.
Releasing result
When all the results related to all the course units in respective years are released, a result sheet will be displayed in CDCE website and in the student account.
Releasing final results of the degree
The final result of the degree will be calculated after considering results of all the levels and it will be released after the approval of the Results Board.
Under no circumstances for any reason whatever will there be a re-scrutiny of answer scripts of external degree examinations.
Issuing certificates
Partial Grade Report can be obtained after paying a sum of money, for an essential reason after the registration, in first/second or third years.
Academic Record that is given after Senate Approval, will be issued to each undergraduate by the Institute. If an extra copy needed, it can be obtained by paying a sum of money.
Confidential Academic Transcript can be obtained after handing over a letter of request. That will be sent to the relevant higher education institute.
Issuing degree certificate
Degree Certificates will be issued on a date decided by the Kelaniya University, after the convocation.
All External candidates are required to follow instructions given below when they wish to contact the External Examinations Branch in person, in writing or via telephone. However, a registered external student is permitted to contact the External Examinations Branch any time on an urgent matter.
