Student Orientation Programme – 2026
The Student Orientation Programme for Group 1 students registered for the Bachelor of Arts Degree Programme offered by the Centre for Distance and Continuing Education (CDCE), University of Kelaniya for the academic year 2025, was held on Saturday, 06th June 2026, at the Faculty Auditorium of the Faculty of Computing and Technology, University of Kelaniya.
The programme commenced with the staff procession presided over by Ven. Dr. Dodamkumbure Dhammadassi Thero, Director of the Centre for Distance and Continuing Education (CDCE), followed by the playing of the University anthem.
Thereafter, Ven. Dr. Udawela Rewatha Thero, Deputy Director – Registration and Examination, delivered the introductory speech, highlighting the history and development of the University. During his address, a video message by Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, was played. In her message, she warmly welcomed the new students and extended her best wishes for their future success.
The welcome address was delivered by Mr. S. Manivannan, Deputy Registrar / CDCE.
The gathering was also addressed by Ven. Dr. Dodamkumbure Dhammadassi Thero, Director / CDCE, who presided over the event.
Several resource persons addressed the students on a range of important topics. The speakers included Ms. Rajini Aloka, Coordinator – Career-Based English Programme, Mr. Sameera Madhusanka, Coordinator – Career Based Information Technology Programme, Ms. Sathsara Perera, Coordinator – Career-Based Work Training Programme, Mr. S. Manivannan, Deputy Registrar, CDCE, Mr. P.H.U. Nissanka, Senior Assistant Bursar, CDCE, Mr. Darshana Sampath Somarathne, Deputy Director / CDCE and Mr. D.P.D.M. Senadheera, Audio-Visual Technical Officer, CDCE.
During the programme, students were issued the Student Handbook, Syllabus Book, Student Identity Card, and Registration Confirmation Letter, together with the username and password required to access the Learning Management System (LMS).
The event concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Ven. Dr. Udawela Rewatha Thero, followed by the National Anthem.
